School Boundary Realignment
Context
The Worcester Public Schools Administration presented a district boundary and realignment report (general business item gb 6-72, opened June 25, 2026), and the School Committee's Operations and Governance Committee (Jermaine Johnson, Molly McCullough, Dianna Biancheria) is considering its recommendations. Related items: McCullough's review of "magnet" school names and BMS/BHS magnet scheduling, Johnson's request to cut the bus-eligibility distance from 2 miles to 1.5 miles "with the new school district lines" (all filed on August 18), and gb 6-95 to update Policy JCA (assignment of students to schools) "in conjunction with the district realignment vote." Community realignment forums are scheduled after Operations and Governance meetings. Based on posted agendas only; no minutes or transcripts yet, so positions and any vote outcome are unknown.
Status
Held at the August 18 and September 16 Operations and Governance meetings (the September 3 agenda reports the August 18 hold as 3-0; the September 16 agenda recommends "Hold for further discussion"). A realignment forum was set for September 16 at Worcester Technical High School and another for October 13 at Vernon Hill Elementary School. No final vote yet as of the September 17 agenda.
