Dangerous Structure Demolitions and Code Enforcement

Context

Each month the General Government Committee requests public hearings on ordinances ordering demolition of dangerous structures, presented by Neighborhood Services (Assistant Director Brian Chaney). On 2026-08-10 Council Member Vivián V. Joiner pulled the 3005 Teresa Avenue case to ask about expired citations and why it had taken 14 months; Chaney said properties are prioritized by severity and that 2802 Trent Street, which Joiner called dangerous, would come in September. Barbara Hanes Burke raised code enforcement problems in the Northeast Ward and residents' inability to get information, and asked for a process for Council Members to talk directly with Code Enforcement officers; Denise D. Adams asked for a meeting with staff.
