COA2026-058 1225 Forsyth Street Fence and Gate
Context
Certificate of Appropriateness COA2026-058 for Oliver G. Meade, 1225 Forsyth Street (J.D. Slaughter House, contributing, West End Historic Overlay District 418): a painted wood picket fence (30 to 36 inches) and double gate across the front yard. Staff (Isabel Coletti) found it incongruous with the district and recommended denial: it sits on the level part of the yard close to the house, above street level, and obscures the masonry porch foundation, an architecturally significant feature; front-yard fences in the district are usually set near the sidewalk. Meade spoke for it.
Status
Continued on August 5, 2026 (unanimous, on the chair's motion) to October 7 with the applicant to revise the fence location and configuration with staff by September 9. Listed as continued on the October 7 agenda; the outcome is not in these documents.
