2026-08-31 - Traffic and Parking Committee
Summary
Jose A. Rivera, Luis A. Ojeda and Robert A. Bilotta (arrived 5:03, remote) met 5:00 to 7:04 PM. Minutes were approved 2-0 (Bilotta absent), and nearly all later votes were 3-0 on Stephen S. Rolle's recommendations. Rolle filed most "Go Slow Children" and mid-block flashing-beacon crosswalk requests (Park Ave., Gold Star Blvd.) as non-MUTCD or unsafe without roadway redesign, often with chairman's orders for alternatives such as crosswalks on Beverly Rd., Willowbrook Ln., Elm St. and a playground advisory sign on Ames St. Crosswalks on North Pkwy. were approved, Gage St. was approved as one-way eastbound, and a Thorne St. one-way request was held after residents split. Two Theatre Cafe parking petitions on Main St. were filed, one because the block already has a one-hour limit and the other because a comprehensive update to Main St. parking regulations is planned for the fall. Resident permit parking removal was approved for Wamsutta Ave. but filed for South Flagg St. and Shirley St. after residents and councilors cited institutional impact. Park Ave. and Pleasant St. turn-lane requests were filed, with an order to address left-turn safety in the upcoming Bottleneck signal project.
