Street and Sidewalk Rehabilitation Process

Context

Councilors' push to change how streets and sidewalks are chosen and tracked for rehabilitation. On 2026-09-08, Tony Economou sought a list of fixes to substandard street and sidewalk work, John P. Fresolo asked for a Public Works discussion of how projects are selected with district councilors, and Satya B. Mitra asked for a report on arterial resurfacing costs. Many resurfacing, sidewalk and streetlight petitions were referred to Public Works.

Status

On 2026-09-15 the August street and sidewalk construction progress report drew comment from most councilors. Adopted 11-0: Khrystian E. King's best-practices report (timelines, notices, contractor accountability, completion frameworks), Jose A. Rivera's request for a selection process modeled on the speed hump program, Economou's reinstallation order, and Mitra's arterial-cost report. Fresolo's order, amended by Rivera to consider the district councilors' role, went to Public Works. A separate communication on new speed hump program procedures went to Traffic and Parking.
