Becks Church Road Property Sale

Context

The City owns vacant property (Tax PIN 6818-86-7238, 0 Becks Church Road) just south of the Hanes Mill Road Solid Waste Facility, at the end of Woodcliff Drive. Hunter L. James Jr., who owns the adjoining 5496 Woodcliff Drive, offered $20,000 on May 1, 2026 for about 19,748 square feet, as-is, with a deed notation about the nearby landfill. Under N.C.G.S. 160A-269 the sale goes through the upset bid process (10-day periods to raise the bid); with no upset bid the sale proceeds without further Council action, otherwise Council must confirm. Staff say the land is not needed for the landfill. The Commission's resolution would recommend that City Council approve the sale.

Status

The form in the October 12, 2026 packet is stamped "Item pulled for further review October 12 2026", so the recommendation apparently was not voted that day. No later status is in the documents.
