Council Budget Workshop and Retreat

Context

After a contentious last month of the FY2027 budget, the city manager proposed a third-party facilitated workshop (School of Government or the regional council of governments) to build trust and set expectations, in November, followed by a December budget meeting and a more detailed mid-January meeting, in shorter sessions. A truth-in-taxation notice requirement means a recommended tax rate is needed around February or March. Council members also want the separation allowance and downtown vacant or wrapped buildings policy on the retreat agenda.

Status

Members favored the approach; staff will ask the School of Government and others how they would run it and propose dates. No dates set as of October 6.
