Downtown Main Street Program

Context

Thomasville's North Carolina Main Street community (17 blocks, 146 parcels, nine downtown restaurants, $855,000 of city investment in the first report, volunteer hours valued at $108,000). On October 6 Tammy Joyce asked to add the Carolina underwear building and the Big Chair Lofts parcels (about 134 apartments) to the map; the map change was moved to briefing. Also discussed: Pace Park phase one (parallel parking but not all angled parking; wayfinding signs approved by DOT and going up), a new candy store, downtown buildings under long-term construction wrap (the city says it cannot regulate appearance while permits stay active; council asked to put a policy on the retreat agenda), and a loading zone removal ordinance heard at the Public Safety Committee.

Status

Ongoing; map update and loading zone ordinance headed to briefing.
