Livestock and Poultry Ordinance
Context
Proposed amendment to section 10-36 of the city code (domestic animals). Livestock would need a lot of at least 2 acres, structures 200 feet from neighbors' homes and 20 feet from property lines, and one animal per 2 acres up to five; poultry (hens only, no roosters, five per dwelling, not at multifamily housing) is split out; swine stay prohibited under section 10-2; dog breeding stays under section 10-37. After last month's concern about existing horses, donkeys and pet pigs, Dustin Carter added a grandfather clause (subsection H): animals lawfully kept before October 19, 2026 may stay for their lives but no additions that perpetuate non-compliance. Section numbers are from auto-captions and may be misheard.
Status
Presented October 6 to the Public Safety Committee with an October 19, 2026 effective date if adopted; a member seconded and praised the revisions, but the captions do not clearly record the motion to send it on.
