High Toms Baseball Lease

Context

The city leases its ballpark to HPT Highs LLC (the High Toms collegiate summer baseball team). The lease was contingent on membership in the Coastal Plain League, which the team wants to leave.

Status

Council approved 7-0 on September 21, 2026 a one-year stopgap first amendment letting the team keep the lease on the same terms while unaffiliated; it must regain affiliation with a similar league the following year. The city manager had reported work on the lease at the September 14 briefing.
